King County Dems resolve to withhold endorsement from candidates who advocate cuts to Social Security
At its Tuesday night meeting, the King County Democrats approved a resolution opposing the Chained CPI cuts to Social Security. The resolution concludes with the following strong words: “going forward, we will refuse to endorse or support any federal candidate that either votes for or advocates for cuts to Social Security, and that all candidates seeking our endorsement or support should be made aware of this policy.”
Supporters of the resolution had been concerned that it might be controversial because of that concluding sentence which opposes a policy endorsed by President Obama. But when Dean Fournier, of the Platform and Resolution Committee, drew attention to the sentence, it “got numerous affirmative murmurs, a couple of which sounded like ‘It’s about time.'”
Amen.
